Race Weekend at Loon: Where to Stay for the Loon Mountain Race

Long before the first runners leave the starting line, race weekend begins to stir at the base of Loon Mountain. Shoes are laced in quiet guestrooms. Water bottles are filled. Spectators review the course and plan their journey toward the summit. Outside, the mountain stands as both the setting and the challenge ahead.

The Loon Mountain Race is not a typical Sunday road race. Its course climbs approximately 6.03 miles and gains 3,066 feet before finishing at the summit of North Peak. Runners encounter trails, grassy ski slopes and mountain access roads as they work their way upward through one of New England’s most demanding mountain-running events. The 2026 race took place on Sunday, July 12, with separate starting times for women and men.

When the weekend revolves around that kind of ascent, the right place to stay matters. At Mountain Club on Loon, our slopeside location keeps runners, supporters and families close to the race while providing the space and amenities needed to prepare, recover and enjoy the White Mountains beyond the finish line.

Wake Up at the Mountain

Race mornings can become complicated when they begin with an unfamiliar drive, an early checkout or a search for parking. Staying at our resort places you directly on the slopes of Loon Mountain rather than miles away from the event setting. Mountain Club on Loon offers the only slopeside accommodations on Loon Mountain, creating a particularly convenient home base for a weekend centered on the race.

Our accommodations include guestrooms, studios and suites designed for individuals, couples and families. A guestroom can provide a comfortable retreat for a solo runner or couple, while a suite gives families and race groups additional room to spread out during a multi-night stay.

The benefits are felt before the race even begins. You can organize equipment the night before, enjoy a calmer morning routine and step outside already surrounded by the landscape you came to experience. Instead of making the mountain the final destination of a long morning journey, you can wake up with it right outside.

Follow the Race Toward the Summit

The Loon Mountain Race is exciting from the spectator side, too. The official event experience allows supporters to ride the Gondola Skyride and watch runners finish at the top of North Peak. In 2026, spectators could begin boarding the gondola at 7:30 a.m., and their tickets remained valid throughout the day.

That creates a race morning unlike one spent waiting beside a conventional finish chute. Friends and family can climb above the treeline, take in the White Mountain scenery and feel the energy build as runners approach the summit.

A gondola ticket also provides access to attractions at the summit of Loon Peak, including the glacial caves, Herbert’s Observation Tower and the mountaintop disc golf course. After cheering at the finish, spectators can continue exploring rather than immediately returning to the base.

Turn Recovery Into Part of the Weekend

Crossing the finish line may end the timed portion of the race, but recovery becomes the next event on the itinerary. Once runners return to our resort, the pace can finally shift.

Our Mountain Spa & Wellness Center offers a setting where tired legs and shoulders can receive some well-earned attention. Available massage options include deep-tissue, hot-stone and reflexology treatments, providing several ways to relax after a strenuous mountain effort.

Recovery can also be simple: a swim, a quiet afternoon in your accommodation or a meal shared with the people who followed the journey from the base to the summit. Our dining brings New England-inspired, farm-to-table fare to the resort, allowing the group to gather without adding another drive to an already full day.

Stay for More Than the Finish

Race weekend does not need to be reduced to bib pickup, competition and departure. Loon Mountain’s warmer-weather experiences include lift-served mountain biking, ziplining and other outdoor activities, while the surrounding White Mountains open the door to hiking, scenic drives and family attractions.

A second night changes the mood completely. The alarms can be turned off, breakfast can last longer and the mountain can be enjoyed without a stopwatch.

At Mountain Club on Loon, our accommodations, spa, dining and location come together around the rhythm of the event. You can arrive ready to climb, follow the competition to the summit and return to a slopeside retreat built for the quieter hours after the race. For runners and supporters alike, it is a place to experience the Loon Mountain Race as a complete mountain weekend—not merely a course to conquer.
