Friday Night Bikes at Loon: A Late-Summer Weekend for Mountain Biking Fans
Friday afternoon usually signals the end of the week. At Loon Mountain, it can signal the start of another run.
As daylight settles across the White Mountains, bikes continue rolling onto the Kancamagus 8 chairlift, riders trade stories on the patio, and the mountain stays active beyond its usual daytime rhythm. Friday Night Bikes extends access to Loon’s downhill terrain into the evening, transforming the beginning of the weekend into a gathering for riders who are not ready to call it a day.
With our mountainside accommodations just steps from the action, Mountain Club on Loon gives biking fans a convenient place to turn those evening laps into a complete late-summer getaway.
Start the Weekend on Two Wheels
Friday Night Bikes returns on select Fridays throughout the summer and fall. The 2026 late-summer schedule includes August 7, 14, 21 and 28, with the Kancamagus 8 operating later so riders can spend more time on trails such as Hopper, Derailer and Steam Punk. Friday lift access is included with qualifying season passes as well as day or late-afternoon tickets purchased for that date.
The appeal goes beyond simply adding more hours to the day. Evening changes the character of the mountain. Shadows stretch across the trails, the temperature begins to ease, and the final rides carry the energy of an entire weekend opening up ahead.
Friday Night Bikes also brings music, food and a social atmosphere to the Kanc 8 Patio on scheduled evenings. It is a setting where riders can compare favorite lines, watch friends finish a run and enjoy the mountain without immediately packing up for the drive home.
Find a Trail That Matches Your Ride
Loon Mountain Bike Park includes more than 15 miles of purpose-built terrain descending across 1,000 vertical feet. Its trail network ranges from smoother beginner routes to technical and freeride lines, giving developing riders room to build confidence while offering experienced bikers new challenges to pursue.
A first visit does not need to begin with the most demanding descent. Riders can learn how the bike responds through berms, practice maintaining speed and gradually progress toward trails with more technical features. Those arriving without all their equipment can also explore rental options through Loon’s Bike Shop, where helmets and protective pads are available. Helmets are required in the Bike Park, and full-face helmets are recommended.
The variety makes the weekend adaptable for groups with different levels of experience. One rider may spend the evening refining technique, while another searches for jumps, steeper terrain and a faster line down the mountain. Everyone eventually returns to the same lift and patio, keeping the experience shared even when the rides look different.
Trade the Parking Lot for a Mountainside Retreat
After the final chair, the evening should not have to continue with a long drive. Our location on Loon Mountain makes it easy to move from the Bike Park into the quieter part of the weekend.
Our accommodations include guestrooms, studios and suites suited to solo riders, couples, families and groups traveling together. Some configurations provide full kitchens and balconies, offering extra flexibility for storing gear, preparing an early meal or relaxing with the mountain still in view.
There is time to clean up, change clothes and settle in rather than rushing away from the atmosphere that made the evening memorable. The bike may be finished for the night, but the mountain experience continues.
Refuel, Recover and Ride Again
A full evening of downhill laps calls for an easy meal nearby. Our on-site dining serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, allowing riders to refuel without leaving the property.
Recovery can continue the following morning at our spa and wellness center. A massage can help tired muscles settle after repeated descents, while the pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room offer gentler ways to reset before another active day.
Saturday can then begin according to how the body feels. Return to the Bike Park for another session, explore Loon’s cross-country trail network or shift gears entirely with hiking and other White Mountain activities.
Friday Night Bikes proves that the weekend does not have to wait until Saturday morning. From our mountain-facing home base, you can arrive ready to ride, stay through the final evening laps and wake up close enough to do it all again. For mountain biking fans, that is not merely a convenient stay. It is a weekend built around the trail.
