Best Things to Do On A White Mountains Getaway

Anytime you can make it out to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and stay with us here at The Mountain Club on Loon, you’ll be spoiled for choices when it comes to things to do. Ours is truly a year-round world-class destination for outdoor activities, sightseeing, and cultural tourism, and a slopeside room or suite with us gives you the best front-row seats you could ask for.

We encourage you to explore the Things to Do pages here on the Mountain Club website, but to get your trip-planning juices going, here’s a sketch of a potential itinerary for the perfect Mountain Club on Loon getaway.

Breakfast at The Mountain Club

There’s no better way to start your day among the grandest mountains in the Northeast than with a Mountain Club breakfast! During the week, enjoy our Grab-’n-Go Breakfast, offering everything from steel-cut oatmeal and bagels and cream cheese to French toast, Hash & Eggs, and various breakfast sandwiches. On the weekend, our Breakfast Buffet provides sumptuous options, including Mountain Club Home Fries, buttermilk pancakes, and fresh-baked scones and muffins. We also serve a full breakfast mid-week and during the weekend. Please make sure to check our schedule of operations!

(Breakfast takes center stage in our popular Rise & Dine Package here at The Mountain Club on Loon: well worth considering!)

A Full Day of Fun in the White Mountains

You’re right on the doorstep of the lauded Loon Mountain Resort as a guest of ours, with some of the finest in four-season, high-country thrills and pleasures of any New England ski resort at your ready disposal. The snowsports here are legendary amid 370 skiable acres, 61 trails, and 2,109 feet of vertical, with six terrain parks, New Hampshire’s only Superpipe, extensive snowshoeing and cross-country trails, and snow tubing both day and night complementing the runs.

Loon Mountain also offers plenty of summertime thrills, including an outstanding network of cross-country and downhill bike trails.

With the 750,852-acre White Mountain National Forest and superb state parks such as Franconia Notch at your disposal, there’s much else to explore in the outdoor-recreation department. Hike to eye-popping mountaintops and grand waterfalls, pedal the Franconia Notch Bike Patch, go trout-fishing on the Pemigewasset or other area rivers (plus lakes and ponds), and revel in some of the very finest fall colors Planet Earth has to offer. Or enjoy a just-about-endless system of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails.

The Kancamagus Scenic Byway ranks among the great scenic drives in all of New England, and it’s just a stone’s throw away from your accommodations at The Mountain Club on Loon.

Check out beloved amusement and theme parks such as the New Hampshire Ice Castles, Clark’s Bears, and Story Land, or tool between fine local museums such as the New England Ski Museum and the Franconia Heritage Museum. Visit a working sugarhouse in the late winter or early spring, or attend one of many annual events such as the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival.

A Wellness Retreat at The Mountain Club on Loon

Outdoor adventuring, sightseeing, and festival-going are all very much options, as the above (non-exhaustive) summary suggests. But maybe you want a little soul-rejuvenating downtime or a healthy wellness experience.

Well, look no further than our very own Mountain Spa & Wellness Center here at The Mountain Club on Loon. Avail yourself of a massage or other relaxing spa treatment, do some laps in the pool (or marinate in the whirlpool awhile), attend a Pilates or yoga class, or work directly with a personal trainer or nutrition consultant.

Evening at The Mountain Club

Whether it’s been a jam-packed out-and-about day or a relaxing one spent in our on-site spa, you can close things out in style at our Black Diamond Pub. Tuck into a delicious farm-to-fork dinner featuring everything from Grilled Marinated Shrimp, B.D.P. Smoked Chicken Wings, and other appetizers to such main courses as the Black Diamond Burger, the B.D.P. Curry Rice Bowl, or the B.D.P. Signature Smoked Prime Rib—not to mention fine salads and desserts.

Oh, and toast a day well spent in the White Mountains with a suitably festive beverage!
