The New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival
Presented by NHSCOT, the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival—which launched back in 1976 at Loon Mountain—offers fantastic variety for young and old. From traditional Scottish music to the always-mindboggling feats of Scottish Heavy Athletics, this is an authentic celebration of Scottish and Scottish-American culture back-dropped by New Hampshire’s glorious White Mountains—a suitable stand-in for the Scottish Highlands, we’d say!
Take in competitions in Highland Dancing, Pipe Bands, Scottish Harp, and more, and get an up-close look at some mighty talented herding pooches in the festival’s sheepdog trials.
The Scottish Heavy Athletics—which include such feats of strength as the Caber Toss, the Stone Carry, and the Hammer Throw—feature competitors from across North America and from Scotland and other parts of Europe. The New England Disabled Heavy Athletics is another fantastic tradition at the New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival.
There’ll be music aplenty even beyond the piping, drumming, and fiddling of the musical competitions: from the stage shows under the concert tent to performances in the Octagon and Governor’s lodges and the Piper’s Pub. Performers this year include The Brigadoons, Katie McNalley, Rebel Collective, and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, among others.
